What's in a name?

The maruhachi (AKA Hachimaru) became the city symbol in 1907 (Meiji 40) in recognition of the progress of the city. The kanji has lines which flow away from each other and implies growth and greatness. The mark is often found in a circle or maru, which also has a meaning of completeness, and it is the ‘correct-mark’ found on school work or other docuements.
Marurhachi or Hachimaru!!
